MZ | ONLINE SURVEY PLATFORM

Role: Product Designer | Type: Personal | Design Timeline: 2 weeks | Tools: Figma, Excel | Device Compatibility: Desktop

THE CHALLENGE

Create an insights tool that can be used for simple forms as well as advanced surveys without compromising ease of use.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

I followed the Discover, Define, and Define process. It was important to take a user-centered design approach. The main priority was to create a tool that would enhance the experience regardless of the type of insights collected.

Market Landscape

The Online Survey Software Market size was about USD 6.06 billion in 2022 and USD 6.66 billion in 2023. Growth is expected to continue even more over the next couple of years. It’s important to explore the successes and gaps in the market to identify areas of opportunity in the survey platform space.

The Sweet Spot— A survey designer’s dream

somewhere between the sophistication of a market research tool and the ease of a form tool.

THE SURVEY DESIGNER / THE SURVEY CODER

Role & Key Behaviors

  • Review the client questionnaire to estimate complexity, feasibility, timelines, and possible logic errors

  • Code survey according to the client questionnaire, trying their best to make minimal mistakes

  • Test the survey for potential issues and sharing testing link with stakeholders in order to receive feedback

  • If the survey is too complex for the survey fielder to configure, then the survey coder will set quotas

  • Avoids interruptions and context switch when they’re in the middle of coding a complex survey

Needs & Desires

  • An intuitive Survey Maker where it is easy to find the tools needed to build a survey

  • A Survey Maker that provides survey flow and logic flexibility for large complex surveys

  • A Survey Flow view that is easy to look— where survey elements are distinguishable and routing logic is clear

  • A survey Maker that makes it easier to catch errors

  • A Survey platform that enable collaboration, especially for logic reviews and testing

DEFINE

I deliberately decided to prioritize

the survey designer.

A strong foundation is essential. If the design of a live survey is off, the data collected is futile, the survey fielder lose their ability to deliver, and the client owner has to go into damage control mode. It’s important to design a system that supports and empowers survey designers for the whole system to work.
